Existentialism is a 20th century philosophy that arose in war-ravaged Europe and reduced human thought to an analysis or chronicle of existence, which was said to be impossible to exhaustively describe or understand in scientific terms. (Thanks to Philosophical Isms) Nihilism is the doctrine that nothing exists or can be known; Skepticism on a grand scale. (Thanks to Philosophical Isms) Deconstructionism started out as a method of literary criticism that was later expanded to include everything. Basically, deconstructionists argue that all writing is reducible to an arbitrary sequence of linguistic signs or words whose meanings have no relationship to the author's intention or to the world outside the text. Daria's line "One of these things is not like the others" is a Sesame Street quote. The mother and child who stop by Jane's booth were seen before in "It Happened One Nut" Daria's line about "Mr. Phelps" is a Mission: Impossible reference. O'Keefe is a painter known for drawing flowers (yes, among other things, but principly flowers). It's a symbolism thing. Do I have to draw a picture for you?
